HOW KNOWLEDGEABLE YOU ARE

Scenario:

You are applying for a position in a company. In the first test, the interview team requires you to clarify your understanding, your strengths, your weaknesses of learning ability in a report of around 5 – 10 pages. Basing on your report, the company will decide whether you are suitable to the position and they accept your application or not.  

Aim of the assignment

This assignment satisfies the following learning outcomes:

LO 1: Understanding how self-managed learning can enhance lifelong development

1.1.            Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning

1.2.            Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts should be encouraged

1.3.            Evaluate the benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organization

Task 1: Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning:

-          Describe Kolb’s experimental learning cycles and main approaches to learning.

-          Clarify advantages and disadvantages of each approach

Task 1 produces evidence for assessment criterion 1.1

Task 2: Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts should be encouraged

-          Using Honey and Mumford’s theory framework to describe 4 main types of learning. Basing on their definition and characteristics, please propose which career is suitable to each type of learning.

-          Describe the meaning of continuing professional development. Propose ways to enhance personal performance and career progression basing on 4 main types of learning. For example, which ways Activist/Reflector/Theorist/Pragmatist should implement to enhance his/her personal performance and career progression.

Task 3: Evaluate the benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organization

-          Basing on your knowledge, your experience and information stated in the course book, give out some benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organization. For example, individuals can get better job opportunities; organizations can increase their competitive advantages by creating a highly skillful and knowledgeable team...

Student guidelines

GL 1 You should write this assignment in academic style, make sure you have introduction, body, and conclusion.

GL 2 You could use models, theories, diagrams and tables where appropriate to enhance your argument. Remember to reference the sources.

GL 3 You should use in-text references and a list of all cited sources at the end of the essay (Harvard Referencing Style)

GL 4 Your report should be approximately 1,000 – 1,500 words in length (excluding the appendices and references)

Submission requirements

You are expected to submit hard copy of this assignment to your instructor. Evidence of primary research (if any) must be included in the Appendix.

P 1.1. Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning. In specific, you must state the Kolb model and all approaches to learning. And, you must find out at least one advantage and one disadvantage of each approach.

P 1.2. Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts should be encouraged. In specific, you must point out which career is suitable to each type of learning basing on Honey and Mumford’s theory framework; and propose at least one way to enhance personal performance and career progression.

 P 1.3. Evaluate the benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organization.

-       Effective judgments have been made to justify the match between learning styles and career development; to find out benefits of self-managed learning for individuals and organizations.

-       Advantages and disadvantages of at least 3 approaches to learning with typical examples.

-       At least 3 ways to enhance personal performance and career progression.

-       Your strengths and weaknesses of at least 3 approaches to learning and propose at least one way to enhance your own performance and career progression.

M 2. Design and apply appropriate methods. You must show:

-            Relevant theories to enhance your own career progression

-            A range of methods and techniques have been applied for doing research such as comparison between theories and practices to make your conclusion.

-            A range of sources of information has been used and justified.

M 3. Present and communicate appropriate findings.

In specific, your work must show that:

-        The appropriate structure and approach has been used. For example, you follow the deductive or synthesis style.

-       Coherent, logical writing.

-       A range of methods of presentation have been used and technical language has been accurately used.

-       The communication is appropriate for familiar and unfamiliar audiences

D 1. Use critical reflection to evaluate own work and justify valid conclusion:

-       Realistic improvements have been proposed against defined characteristics for success. In specific, basing on approaches to learning theory, you must point out strengths and weaknesses of Vietnamese students in each approach, and you must suggest at least one way to improve the situation in the trend of globalization.

-       Self criticism approach has taken place. In specific, basing on 4 main types of learning, you must propose the most suitable type for Vietnamese students and education conditions with typical examples.

-       Conclusions have been arrived at through synthesis of ideas and have been justified.

D 2. Take responsibility for managing and organizing activities. In particular, your work must show that:

-            Autonomy or independence has been demonstrated. Your assignment proves your own work through Turn-it-in software

-            Substantial activities, projects or investigations have been planned, managed and organized. In your assignment, there have been a number of interviews or surveys, you must state out how many people surveyed/ interviewed, and who they are.

-            Convergent and lateral thinking have been applied. In specific, you must propose a suitable learning model for Vietnamese students.

-            Self evaluation has taken place based on strong evidence (by your own ideas or judgments)
