Use data that has been collected for other reasons and will not be collecting primary data. The DNP and nursing team will need to decide what data will best address the question. Determine where the data is located, remembering that databases exist throughout the institution: employee records, patient records, laboratory records, and so on. Your team will need to decide where to data mine for the most appropriate information to answer the question. Imagine creating a database or spreadsheet to store the collected information. How will you assure that the data is copied or transferred accurately? Finally, what privacy or ethical issues must be considered as you plan the data collection?
