HOW SUCCESSFUL YOU BECOME IN YOUR FUTURE

Scenario:

It’s the last round of the test. In order to assess your career development, the interview team requires you to state out your career plan in a report of around 5 – 10 pages. Basing on your report, the company will have a clear image of your personal characteristics in order to perform effectively and decide whether you will work for the company long-term or not.

Aim of the assignment

This assignment satisfies the following learning outcomes:

3.2.            Undertake and document development activities as planned.

3.3.            Reflect critically on own learning against original aims and objectives set in the development plan.

3.4.            Update the development plan based on feedback and evaluation.

Task 1: Taking gap analysis between your current competencies and the job standard

Task 1.1: Evaluate own current skills and competencies against professional standards and organizational objectives.

-          Basing on the job description of a specific position you’re applying, identify job standards, including subset skills to work with people, to work with things, to work with information and data.

-          For this task, you must finish skills audit table in 5 stages from Page 142 to Page 145 of the course book.  Then, make conclusions on your current skills and competencies

Task 2: Setting your personal and professional goals

Task 2.1: Identify own development needs and the activities required meeting them. In specific, by doing Activity 5 on Page 141, you must:

-          Write down your highest priority career goals using SMART principles.

-          List three interpersonal skills which you feel are most relevant to successful achievement of these goals.

-          Identify and list any five specific strengths and weaknesses you perceive or have identified in your behaviors or skills in these areas.

-          Restate these strengths and weaknesses as development needs.

-          Rank your development needs in order according to the instruction

Task 2.1  produces evidence for assessment criterion 2.2

 

Task 2.2: Identify development opportunities to meet current and future defined needs.

-          From the goals you set in Task 2.1, you should give some thought to the type of support which might help you to achieve your plan, such as a mentor, types of supporters, financial supports or any other method you wish.

-          Point out opportunities and threats to career progression.

Task 3: Setting personal development plan

Task 3.1: Devise a personal and professional development plan based on identified needs. You must base on the form of an action plan on Page 154 to create your own plan.

Task 3.2: Discuss the processes and activities required to implement the development plan. From certain criteria in Part 4.7 on Page 152, or from other criteria you wish to use, you can decide the best development activities for you and steps for achieving the objective.

Task 4: Implementing, reviewing and adjusting the plan (if any)

Task 4.1: Undertake and document development activities as planned.

-          Rethink the situation of work-based problems you selected in the Assignment 2, apply the format of Pedler et al (2001) to choose and analyze specific interaction or interpersonal activities you would do if you were in such those situations.

Task 4.2: Reflect critically on own learning against original aims and objectives set in the development plan.

-          Choose one specific skill you intend to improve for your future goals. Undertake one week for improvement.

-          Report on what you did and how improved the skill is within the one week.

-          Using reflective practice theories and significant event analysis to inform your learning and development needs (Page 171 – 172).

Task 4.2  produces evidence for assessment criterion 3.3

Task 4.3: Update the development plan based on feedback and evaluation. By listing the feedback from other people about your strengths and development opportunities, update your plan (if any).

P 3.3. Reflect critically on own learning against original aims and objectives set in the development plan. You must choose one specific skill, report advantages and disadvantages you did in one week

 

P 3.4.  Update the development plan based on feedback and evaluation. You must state at least two feedbacks from others on your strengths and your development opportunities.

 

M 1. Identify and apply strategies to find appropriate solutions. In specific, your report must show:

-       Effective judgments have been made to justify the relevancy between your weaknesses and opportunities to overcome; or the relevancy between interpersonal skills chosen and the successful achievement of your goals

-       An effective approach to study and research has been applied to get critical reflection on your learning, and your skills.

-       Complex problems with more than one variable have been explored. In specific, apart from the PDP set in Task 3, you must create a backup plan in case there will be some changes happening.

 

M 2. Select/Design and apply appropriate methods/techniques. You must show:

-            Relevant techniques have been applied. For example, in specific situations or with specific people/levels, you show relevant techniques to apply skills well.

-            The design/selection of methods and techniques in your PDP has been justified by a role model you must state in your assignment.

-            A range of methods and techniques have been applied for doing research such as comparison between your weaknesses and opportunities for enhancement to make your conclusion.

-            A range of sources of information has been used and justified.

-            Complex information on the position in the company and the industry has been used to find out suitable skills applied.
